Packaging

Today’s marketplace is competitive, so WesPak offers a wide variety of pack styles, enabling us to keep pace with retailer and consumer demand while maintaining a competitive return to our growers. And since our commitment to stewardship extends to the environment, we use recyclable materials whenever possible, including CHEP pallet and RPC containers. Other capabilities include PLU coding, UPC bar coding and traceability coding. If it helps our customers succeed in today’s market, you can count on WesPak to offer it.

Domestic: Handling & Loading

At WesPak, we take extra care in the harvesting and handling of our fruit from the orchard to the packing facility. For starters, we carefully pick our fruit into totes and bins. When picking the more delicate varieties, we even use white cotton gloves and provide special handling. Then all fruit is gently moved from the orchard to the packing facility on air ride trailers. Our years of experience in handling delicate varieties is even evident in the way we handle our less delicate varieties, always with great care to minimize damage and maximize the fruit’s natural beauty.

Once the fruit is cleaned, washed and packed to customer specifications, our commitment to careful handling extends into our cooling strategy. At WesPak, we only cool our fruit with forced air cooling, never hydro-cooling (with the exception of cherries.) This ensures that our fruit – both preconditioned and conventional – is cooled only once and remains cooled, using state-of-the-art cooling rooms with computer-controlled temperature monitoring.

When loading our fruit, we use load air bags for a smoother, less jarring ride. Centerline loading is also available. Temperature recorders monitor all fruit we ship, ensuring that the proper temperature is maintained at all times.

Our loading schedule is flexible and customer-friendly, with loading hours available Monday through Saturday from 8am to midnight. Even so, when customers request loads later than midnight or on Sundays, we can almost always accommodate. We understand the unique needs of the fruit business, and strive to be as flexible as possible in the spirit of cooperation and mutual respect.
