Cultural Practices

Every variety we grow has specific needs, and we aim to obtain maximum production and quality from each. We begin by evaluating the style of pruning required by each tree. We monitor fruit set in order to determine the amount of thinning necessary to produce fruit of optimum size. We analyze the soil to ensure we provide adequate water and soil amendments, which are key to producing quality fruit. We follow a no-till program that keeps dust to a minimum and reduces the amount of tractor traffic in our orchards. We depend on beneficial insects to control pests. And when materials are necessary, we use those with the least environmental impact in order to protect our ecosystem.
